Website is up! A very sparse, beginner website, but it's up all the same. Other items to tackle:
Personalize the website
Create a newsletter
Write another book
???
I suppose this blog post is Step 1 in "personalize the website," though blogging has never been a favorite thing of mine. I'd much rather write about made-up worlds than my own. But I do want to say thank you for checking out my section of the internet.
My first book is available—a romantic novella set in a magical universe. I do plan on making this into a series, as well as expanding this first volume into a longer story, but that's a ways down the link. You can check out The Tree of Dragon Tears now—available on Kindle Unlimited.
I didn't intend for this to be my first book—I'd always thought that would be a vampire novel I've had in my head for over a year now. I will write that book, but The Tree of Dragon Tears felt like a good place to get my feet wet with self-publishing. Having a title published opens a few doors in terms of resources, and helped me learn the lay of the land.
I definitely learned a few things:
Epilogues are important.
Readers do not really care for flashbacks.
Don't skimp on the world-building.
I have ideas in my head for three other series—one contemporary romance with a kink angle, a fantasy environment that follows The Tree of Dragon Tears, and a vampire/werewolves/whatever else urban fantasy series. All are queer romances that will focus on M/M and F/F pairings. I'm excited to get these ideas on paper.
Part of the "research" that I'm enjoying more than I thought I would is using Pinterest. Yes, not all that radical a platform, but I'm getting a ton of inspiration from the images I collect. You can check out my boards here!
Until next time,
Ruby
